때때로 일이
얼마나 스트레스가 심한지
서로 얘기하던 중, 대부분의 스트레스는
소설이나 다름없는 이야기들을 너무 심각하게
받아들여 생기는 결과임을 열심히 설명했다.
추상화된 이야기 자체는 아무 문제도 없다.
하지만 그 안에서 헤매는 것이 문제를 만든다.
고통은 이들 추상화된 이야기에 푹 젖어
그것들이 실제가 아님을 잊을 때 온다.

그림으로 치면 추상화와 같습니다.
마음 가는 대로 종횡무진 붓을 놀립니다.
그러나 그 안에 질서가 있습니다. 현실에 상상이
더해지고 깃털보다 더 세밀한 묘사가 덧붙여집니다.
'소설 같은 이야기'는 그래서 재미와 현실감이 있습니다.
그런데 현실은 아닙니다. 자기 삶의 한 부분으로 받아들여
재미있게 즐겨야지 스트레스의 원인이 되거나
고통으로 다가오게 하면 소설과 추상화를
잘못 감상하는 것입니다.

일반적으로 사람은 
지금의 감정을 설명하고 싶어 한다. 
기쁘면 기쁜 이유를, 우울하면 우울한 이유를 
설명할 수 있어야 마음이 놓인다. 비록 기분이 
썩 좋지 않은 상태라 해도, 언제 어디서부터 
잘못된 것인지를 알아야 인정하고 
받아들일 수 있다고 생각한다.

어떤 일이 벌어진 데에는 반드시 그럴 만한
이유와 시작점이 있습니다. 우울하거나 기분이 
나빠졌다면, 언제 어디서부터 그렇게 되었는지
돌아볼 필요가 있습니다. 그것을 받아들이고
다시 마음을 추스르면 됩니다. 
기분이 바뀝니다.
