 냉전은 사실상 끝났지만 세계는 새로운 분쟁에 시달리고 있습니다. 바로 테러입니다. 테러의 위협에 맞서기 위해서는 CQB의 전문가가 되어야 합니다. 'CQB'라는 표현은 경찰과 군대가 도시 안팎에서 접하는 다양한 상황을 묘사할 때 쓰입니다. 검이나 맨손으로 하는 결투에서 나온 말이지만 지금은 소규모 작전 팀이 적진으로 침투할 때 사용하는 기술을 의미합니다. 기본적인 조준 기술과 무기 교체 그리고 무언의 소통 방법까지 이것들은 모든 경찰과 군대의 대원들이 완벽하게 익혀야 할 CQB의 요소들입니다

일단 공격이 시작되면 속도가 필요합니다. 기습으로 확보한 몇 초를 최대한 활용하기 위해서입니다. 속도는 무조건 빠름을 의미하지는 않습니다. 그보다는 신중함과 신속함이라고 표현할 수 있습니다. 속도를 잘 활용하려면 탁월한 계획과 전술이 필요합니다.

 목표에 접근하기 위한 '스택 (stack)'이라고 불리는 대열을 통해 침투 모의 훈련을 알아보겠습니다. 잠시 후에는 실탄과 폭발물도 투입할 예정입니다. 대원들은 신호 체계를 연습하고 있습니다. 선두 대원이 정지 신호를 보냈습니다. 선두의 신호는 곧바로 뒤쪽으로 전달됩니다. 후미의 대원은 전진 준비를 마쳤다는 신호로 앞사람의 어깨에 손을 얹고 꽉 쥡니다. 앞사람도 이 동작을 반복합니다. 뒤의 대원이 어깨를 쥐면 자신의 준비 상태를 확인하고 앞사람에게 신호를 전달합니다. 신호가 선두 대원에게 도달하면 선두 대원이 전진 신호를 보냅니다. 첫 번째 대원은 소총으로 전방을 탐색합니다. 두 번째 대원이 바로 뒤에 붙어 지원하게 됩니다. 보통 세 번째 대원이 침투를 담당합니다. 폭발물을 운반하는 역할입니다. 마지막 대원은 후방의 안전을 담당합니다. 360도 전체를 조준한 상태로 움직일 수 있다는 뜻입니다.
