This was one of Dave Pickerel's final whiskey projects and Metallica's first. It began with a commitment from the band to value the quality of the juice above all else. So, Dave started sourcing high quality straight whiskey from various distillers. He then transferred the blend into ultra-rich black brandy casks where they further matured with the sweet robust flavors of this dense brandy. Then they blast the barrels with music. I asked Dave before he died, "this has got to be BS, right?" He explained that he'd assumed the same thing but didn't want his name attached to anything that was going to be perceived as gimmicky. He compared the whiskey with and without the sonic influence and found that the flavor extraction rate with the constant sonic bombardment was significantly higher than the samples. The result is one of the most unique and interesting celebrity whiskies on the market today. But what counts more than anything is how it tastes, and Dave never missed a beat there. Two legends coming together for one rock 'n roll whiskey. How metal is that?
